Water testing and lead-filter resources
Guidance updated · Historical address data unchanged
An address listing describes a service-line record—not the lead concentration at your tap. Milwaukee Water Works provides separate guidance on testing, filters, and steps residents can take to reduce exposure.
How can I test my water for lead?
Start with the City’s water testing guidance for current instructions and testing options. Follow the sampling instructions supplied for the test; how and when a sample is collected matters.
A test result describes the sampled water and conditions. It is not a replacement record and does not identify every plumbing material in a building.
How do I choose a filter?
Use the City’s certified lead-filter guidance to choose a product certified for lead reduction. Do not assume that every water filter removes lead. Follow the manufacturer’s installation, use, and cartridge-replacement instructions.
Check the current City page for any assistance or distribution options; availability and eligibility should be confirmed with the program.
What else should I do?
Read Milwaukee Water Works’ guidance for reducing lead exposure from drinking water. If you are concerned about a child’s exposure or a health symptom, contact a healthcare professional or local health department; an address search cannot assess someone’s exposure.
Check the pipe record too
Use the official address checker and City guidance for identifying or reporting an unknown service-line material. For a property outside Milwaukee, confirm instructions with the utility serving it.
